My Opinion

After finding out that some translations of the bible misinterpreted this word it made me feel a lot better.  I had always had a hard time with the idea of God resting, and furthermore it just did not sit well with me.  I like the idea that God's abstaining from creating could be seen  as a lesson for mankind.  As humans sometimes we forget that it is important for us to abstain from all activity, and allow our minds and bodies to be rejuvenated.  I enjoyed reading the creation story very much,  and now with the help of another opinion  it makes it that much more of an interesting account.

The word shavat..... the take on the word itself

According to Dr. Michael Samuel, who is a rabbi as well presents the idea that the word shavat  which appears in the New Revised Version Standard and the King James version has been wrongfully translated to the modern term rest. The word shavat means to abstain, and that he abstained from creating.
God's resting from creation teaches us that as human beings created in the image of God, we too need to make time for rest and purposely abstain from interfering with creation one day of the week. The passion to create can sometimes be dangerous — especially for a technological society that prides itself on its ability to create, manipulate and control the world around it.

The Story of creation, and the ultimate question.

The story of creation is  a fascinating story that details how our world was formed. It is a well written account for how the earth was formed. while reading the verses  question popped in my head I would like to ask. Why did God need to rest on the 7th day?
